About the Cortland Community Foundation
The Cortland Community Foundation is the only public foundation responding exclusively to the needs of Cortland area organizations and the people they serve. Grants from the Foundation help support capital improvement projects and provide many types of equipment, materials and supplies for local organizations.
The notion behind a community foundation is both simple and inspired: create an endowment to benefit the common good, invest its assets prudently, administer it wisely and let the yield from the principal flow back to the community to enhance the quality of life for those who live and work within it.
The Cortland Community Foundation, through use of its endowment, shall enhance the quality of life for those who live and work within the Cortland community by:
- Encouraging a permanent charitable endowment to meet the needs of the Cortland community
- Providing a vehicle by which donors with diverse philanthropic interests may make gifts to benefit the community
- Carrying out a grant of gift making programs that is visionary, inclusive and enhances the quality of life in the Cortland community.
The Cortland Community Foundation was established in 1998 to address the emerging needs of community non-profit organizations and of individuals seeking ways to donate to the overall well-being of residents in the Greater Cortland, New York area.
First established as a private foundation, the Cortland Community Foundation converted to a public foundation in 2007 in an effort to better position itself for future growth. This conversion will allow the Foundation to continue to give much-needed assistance to local agencies now and for many years to come.
Since its inception, the Foundation has allocated over $2.6 million to more than 90 different local agencies.
